Benefits of bringing Microneedling treatments to your office

What exactly is microneedling?

Microneedling, otherwise known as collagen induction therapy or CIT, is a natural cosmetic procedure aimed at rejuvenating the skin and treating many conditions. Microneedling is safe, minimally invasive, and great for all skin types and textures.

As an acupuncturist, you may be interested in how you can provide these amazing, safe and effective skincare treatments to your patients!

Microessence is founded by two female acupuncturists who specialize in teaching practitioners the ins and outs of the microneedling procedure as well as how to incorporate microneedling treatments into your current practice. Deanna and Cara work full-time in their own practices, treating patients with microneedling, and they can teach you how to do the same successfully.

How does microneedling work?

Microneedling uses a mechanical device with specialized needle tips. The needle tips are single, one-time use, sterile heads that attach to the microneedling device. The small needles penetrate the skin, creating micro-traumas, which allows for the skin to heal itself naturally by producing collagen, elastin, and renewed skin cells.

Microneedling is an excellent treatment for fine lines and wrinkles, scars and post-acne scarring, improving skin elasticity and enlarged pores, sun damage, and hyperpigmentation. Although there are some skin conditions that the microneedling procedure is contraindicated for, such as psoriasis, raised moles, solar keratosis, warts, and skin cancer, most patients, however, are great candidates for the treatment.

Is the effect immediate?

Microneedling treatments are spaced out once every four weeks, which makes incorporating microneedling into your practice a breeze. Unlike cosmetic acupuncture, which needs much more frequent treatments (2-3x a week) microneedling can be done once per month, making this a very easy treatment to include in your current offerings.

During the 4 weeks between treatments, the skin is healing and creating more collagen. For this reason, you will not need to see results immediately but over a period of time in which the changes occur. The microneedling treatment is the catalyst that creates the micro-traumas, and then over time the skin cycle renews, healing those small wounds, and allows the body to naturally produce collagen and elastin, leaving tightened and brightened skin.

Additional benefits of microneedling

Another benefit of microneedling is an increased absorption rate of topical products used. Microneedling creates micro-channels which improves the skin's texture and allows for a significantly increased product absorption making any topical product much more useful.

For this reason, using safe and specific products is very important. Microessence has a line of products designed for microneedling treatments that are safe and effective to use both in the office during treatments as well as at home for your patients.

Is microneedling safe?

Microneedling is safe, given that you take precautions and follow the proper protocol. Education and understanding of the necessary steps to the procedure are of the utmost importance for you and your patients.

Microessence offers an introductory course, Collagen Induction Therapy: Microneedling for Acupuncturists 101, which outlines the necessary steps and is perfect for beginners who want to incorporate this new modality into their practice.
